‘He has a very effective way of drawing the knowledge from his student allowing them to think of the answers for themselves. Highly recommended.’
- Georgie, Dec 2019
I have been teaching since 2004, including from 2010-2012 at Highgate School and from 2012-2020 at Eton College. At Eton, I marked the entrance exams and was also Head of the English at University Summer School, helping students prepare for Oxbridge entry. I know exactly what top schools and universities look for.
I have also taught at National Challenge secondary modern schools and mentored young offenders in Feltham. This broad experience allows me to adapt to all students.
‘Will’s tutoring had made a clear difference for our son. Not only improved the knowledge, but also managed to get the motivation back.’

I aim at helping students exceed their expectations, starting with exam results. After winning a scholarship to Ipswich School, I went on to score 99% for a Distinction in my Advanced Extension Award in English and 3 A grades at A level in English, History and Classics, all over 90%. I then graduated with a First from University College London in 2007 (when it was ranked first for English), achieving 95% for my dissertation on 19th-century American literature. By combining insights from my own academic journey with my experience of helping thousands of students with theirs, I can help you with yours.
‘He has helped my daughter improve in every area, especially essay planning and understanding poetry. He is very patient and approachable.’
- Clare, April 2020
But genuine education goes beyond exam results to inspire a life-long love of learning and literature. Out of a debt of gratitude to my own teachers, I believe that is the true aim of teaching.
‘Brilliant teacher. Outstanding in every way. Ticks all the boxes.’

‘I was fortunate enough to study under Will Knowland’s tutelage for a brief time, during which he changed the whole course of my education. He taught me for just two weeks, but in that time he persuaded me that studying what I wanted where I wanted was a goal within my reach.’
